The "arraignment" process involves:
Being brought before a Judge in the courtroom
Receiving the " criminal complaint" with the crimes charged and the factual basis to each charge
The District Attorney requesting bail or releasing you on your own recognizance (called "ROR")
Pleading guilty or not guilty
The process starts when the court officer brings you from the cell in the back of the courtroom and into the courtroom before the Judge.
If you were unable to contact your family, friends or an attorney when you were arrested then most likely the court will have a Legal Aid attorney appear for you. Legal Aid

Fathers Stuggle to Equal Rights in Court
Many years ago, I began the painful and frustrating journey
called divorce. I had no idea that when my wife left me and the
children, someday I would be fighting to get them back.
I am amazed at how often I hear stories of men who have been
fighting for years just to maintain custody. Like myself, these
fathers at one time had joint custody or were the primary
custodial parent. All too often, the mother in the situation
simply files a few papers with the court, make a few
allegations, and before you know it she has the kids and the
father is left with nothing. There has to be a way that men can
fight back and regain their equal right as a parent.
Unfortunately, the court system is set up to work against
fathers. A women can simply lie, and the court yanks the kids
from your custody. A man can have multiple documents,
evaluations, police reports, etc. and have no progress made in
the courts on his behalf. It simply isn't fair, and at times it
seems like there is no hope.
Fortunately, there are things that fathers can do to help gain a
fair and equitable custody arrangement. The first thing to
remember is that the courts are biased, and you need to do
everything you can to ensure success. After years of fighting
the courts, hiring expensive lawyers, and losing custody time, I
found a book that has helped me gain the inside knowledge that
eventually led to my success. I am now the primary physical
custodial parent of my child, and I no longer fear the family
law judge, mediator, or my ex wife.
This book showed me EXACTLY what I needed to do. It clearly
pointed out the steps necessary to increase my chances and bury
the biased nature of the court. When I receive a notice to
appear in court, I no longer panic and go into "freak-out-mode",
I actually look forward to beating the unfair system. You can do
this too, trust me. I have recommended this book to many fathers
who quickly implemented the strategies and tactics that they
learned. Most of these fathers either dropped their lawyers, or
significantly reduced their dependancy, saving them thousands of
dollars every year.
You do have a chance in family court. You just need to know the
right information. Without this information you are facing a
long, frustrating battle, believe me! You don't have to waste
years of you and your children's life, you can start NOW. This
book has the right information you need, and you can start using
it to your advantage immediately. It is available to instant

Many legal professionals are exposed to Finite Element Analysis
(FEA) in the courtroom. Having a fundamental understanding of
how the method works can help an attorney (i) recognize when FEA
can strengthen a case, (ii) choose a capable expert and (iii)
develop meaningful challenges to the opposition's expert. As
discussed in the last issue of Courtroom FEA, if a loss, injury
or death is due to something bending or breaking, FEA can help
identify the cause of failure and hence the responsible party.
But how does it work?
Divide and conquer.
But first, let's back up and discuss what is being conquered.
FEA is applied to many types of problems, such

Hand calculations are good.
It is very important that design engineers do hand calculations.
It is very important that engineering expert witnesses do hand
calculations.
For everything but the simplest of part geometries, hand
calculations of stress are generally rough estimates. Often they
are only in the ballpark of the true maximum stress levels.
Sometimes they are only in the ballpark of the average stress
levels, and miss the highest stresses entirely.
In the span of 50 years, finite element analysis has gone from
esoteric research topic to widely available, widely applied
mature technology. In the 1980's, FEA required extremely
expensive mainframe computers, very expensive FEA codes and
highly trained analysts, and was
